Based in the firm’s Philadelphia office, Yuri is experienced in all phases of civil litigation, including administrative proceedings, discovery and depositions, motion practice, alternative dispute resolution, trial and appeal. He has counseled clients in a variety of cases pending in the state and federal courts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including personal injury, Federal Employers’ Liability Act, employment discrimination, toxic tort, premises liability and products liability.
Yuri joined LCBF in 2001 after having served as law clerk for the now-retired president judge of the Northampton County Court of Common Pleas, Hon. Robert A. Freedberg. His Pennsylvania roots include seven years in college and law school in State College and Carlisle, and judicial clerkships in two additional Courts of Common Pleas while attending law school.
He is dedicated to comprehensive but efficient case resolution, and seeks to minimize or eliminate his clients’ exposure. He works closely with railroads, employers, insurers and insureds in early development of the facts, including accident investigation and witness interviews, in order to promptly craft defense strategies.
Examples of notable results include:
- Motion for declaratory judgment and injunctive relief granted in Pennsylvania federal court to clients seeking protection from local ordinances on the basis of federal preemption;
- Motions for summary judgment granted in New Jersey and Pennsylvania federal courts, resulting in dismissal of employment discrimination claims under § 1981 and FMLA;
- Motion for summary affirmance granted by Third Circuit Court of Appeals as to dismissal of various civil rights claims; and
- Motion for summary judgment granted as to plaintiff’s FELA claim for negligent infliction of emotional distress.
Frequently involved in alternative dispute resolution, Yuri serves as an arbitrator, Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Arbitration Program.
