LCBF represented a Certified Public Accountant at a hearing before the AICPA Joint Trial Board, where the CPA had been charged with violating the “Acts Discreditable Rule” of the AICPA’s and New York State Society of CPA’s codes of professional conduct. When this CPA came to our firm, he had already been suspended by the AICPA for prior alleged similar conduct. In our case, the AICPA offered to allow the CPA to a) consent to be expelled from the AICPA or b) proceed to the hearing. If the CPA had been expelled, by consent or as a result of the hearing, the expulsion would have been posted on the AICPA’s website, and the AICPA could have referred the CPA to New York State for possible action against his license. At the conclusion of the hearing, the Joint Trial Board deliberated for approximately 1 ½ hours and acquitted the CPA of all charges. The LCBF team was headed by Ronald Joseph.
